Yesterday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America gathered to award the top fashion designers. This year the top menswear award when to Thom Browne and the top womenswear award went to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Actresses, actors, designers, and models all attended the event. Interestingly, all four of my best-dressed picks from the evening are actresses as opposed to designers or models: Ashley Madekwe, Hailee Steinfeld, Nicole Richie, and Sophia Vergara.

Ashley is certainly on-trend in her mint-colored dress and, while I normally have a strong aversion to white pumps, she manages to pull them off. Hailee's outfit may not appeal to everyone, but I think she looks great and the crop top is very youthful and age-appropriate for her. Nicole has certainly redeemed herself from her Met Gala disaster. She is just oozing sex-appeal in her liquid gold dress. Finally, I think it would be difficult for Sophia to put on something that actually makes her look terrible but this dress in particular really suits her shape and the color is just gorgeous on her. If you are loving these looks as much as I am, and want to try to recreate their looks, check out these options:

A few days ago the stars gathered in New York to attend the 2013 Met Gala held at MoMA. I was a HUGE fan of this year's theme: "PUNK: Chaos to Couture." The stars also seemed to enjoy the theme and dressed in their best punk-inspired couture. Some got it right while others really missed the mark. Below are my picks for the best and worst dressed, as well as some hints on recreating the best-dressed's looks.
BEST DRESSED
Emma Watson, Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, and Blake Lively really hit it out of the park for me with their dress selections. Each of their dresses read "punk" to me without taking the theme too literally. I loved Emma Watson's minimalist cut-out dress, Gwen Stefani's bow top, the contrasting hard and soft aspects of Taylor Swift's dress, and the black-swan thing that Blake Lively had going on. To get each of their looks, consider these options:
Emma Watson

BEST ACCESSORIZED
Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lawrence, Sienna Miller, and Ivanka Trump also topped my best-dressed list because they really knew how to accessorize their otherwise not-so-punk dresses with some great punk-inspired accessories without going overboard. Jessica Alba's clutch is TDF. I love Jennifer Lawrence's veil and spiked pumps. Sienna Miller took a risk wearing a studded leather jacket, but it really worked for me as did the spiked headband. And I also loved Ivanka Trump's subtly-dyed green hair and all of her studded gold accessories. To get each of their looks, consider these options:
Jessica Alba
Above: BCBG "Ava" cutout gown for $448 on www.bcbg.com; BCBG "Jana" mohawk spike clutch for $198 on www.bcbg.com.
Jennifer Lawrence

WORST DRESSED
Beyonce, Anne Hathaway, Nina Dobrev, and Madonna struck me as the worst fashion offenders at the gala. I thought that Beyonce's dress was ill-fitting, I don't understand the fabric on the bottom, and the gloves don't quite work with the dress for me. While I liked Anne Hathaway's makeup and hair, there is just way too much going on on that dress. The same goes for Nina Dobrev's outfit selection. As for Madonna, my parents always said that when you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. You have to admit that the woman does have a banging body though!
WORST STYLING
Ginnifer Goodwin, Nicole Ritchie, Miley Cyrus, and Sarah Jessica Parker also topped my list of the worst-styled ladies at the event. While Ginnifer Goodwin's dress is not that bad (albeit a bit ill-fitting), I just can't get over that overly-dramatic black eye shadow. I actually really like Nicole Ritchie's dress (very Rachel Zoe-esque), but the hair just kills the look for me altogether. Miley Cyrus was a double offender with some seriously wacky hair and a dress that I am really just not feeling. However, she is young and fun and I do at least understand where she was going with the hair, although it was perhaps too literal for the event. Finally, Sarah Jessica Parker was guilty of styling overkill if you ask me. While I really do like the dress, including the shape and the print, and I can get over the odd headdress because it is somewhat fabulous and she is ever so fabulous, those tartan boots should have been left at home.
What do you think of my picks for the best and worst dressed at the 2013 Met Gala? Let me know!
