Fall/Winter 2009 Fashion Trend: Moto Jackets and Vests

It is hard to believe that it is almost fall. It seems like the summer has gone by so quickly this year. I typically have mixed feelings about fall. On the one hand, it means that winter is almost here and in Columbus winter seems to drag on and on. On the other hand, fall in Columbus is absolutely gorgeous and it is one of my favorite seasons because of the fashions. To me, fall usually means layering, rich colors, and lightweight scarves and jackets, all of which I love to wear.

This fall many of the trends we've seen from the Spring and Summer are carrying over into the fall collections, including boyfriend blazers, the use of studs and grommets, and the one shoulder tops and dresses. Another trend that seems to be sticking around from last fall is the moto jacket. Moto jackets were all over the fall 2009 fashion runways. Above: Emanuel Ungaro, Jill Stuart, Jean Paul Gaultier.

While the color of choice on the runways was clearly black, moto jackets are now available in a wide array of colors. I didn't jump on the moto jacket bandwagon last year, but this year I caved and purchased the above Frenchi moto jacket (but in black) from Nordstrom. If you too wish to find your inner biker chick, I've compiled an assortment of moto jackets, some faux leather and some real leather in various colors at a variety of price points. Above: Frenchi leather moto jacket available in grey or black at Nordstrom for $168; 7 for all Mankind leather moto jacket at Saks for $625; Bebe leather moto jacket for $198; Express faux leather moto jacket available in grey or black for $118; Silence and Noise faux leather moto jacket available at Urban Outfitters for $98; Sashimi faux leather moto jacket available at Nordstrom in navy, teal, cognac, and grey for $68; Stella Starr faux leather moto jacket available at Nordstrom for $58.

This fall the motorcycle style is not just limited to jackets. Moto vests were also abundant on the fall 2009 fashion runways. Above: Charles Anastase, Dsquared, Elise Overland, Nicole Miller. Again, while the designers heavily favored black leather, in stores I found moto vests in a wide array of fabrics in a variety of colors and at a variety of price points. Below: BDG denim moto vest on sale for $29.99 down from $68 at Urban Outfitters; Express faux leather moto vest available in grey or black for $88; June leather moto vest in brown at Nordstrom for $342; Mike & Chris denim moto vest at nordstrom for $265; Silence and Noise faux leather moto vest available in pink and black at Urban Outfitters for $88.
