Trend Alert: Modern Pantsuits

Lately, a lot of celebs have been forgoing the traditional dress during their red carpet appearances and instead opting to wear a modern pantsuit (Above: Leighton Meester, Halle Berry, Winona Ryder, Jessica Alba). What makes a pantsuit modern? 3/4-length sleeves on the jacket instead of full-length sleeves (see Jessica Alba above), a strong-shouldered jacket (see Halle Berry above), an oversized or tuxedo-inspired jacket (see Winona Ryder above), a tapered-leg trouser as opposed to a bootcut trouser (see Leighton Meester and Jessica Alba above), or an unexpected fabric (see Halle Berry above). I'm not sure how I feel about the pantsuit on the red carpet (I'm a dress girl myself) but I am really liking Jessica Alba's pantsuit above. What do you think of this trend?
