Trend Alert: Tiered Ruffles

I'm loving the tiered ruffle trend that has been popping up on celebs lately on blouses, dresses, and skirts (Above: Taylor Swift; Diane Kruger; Olivia Palermo; Alessandra Ambrosio)! Because this trend is undeniably girly I am of course drawn to it but, unfortunately, my experience with tiered ruffles in the past has been that it can add unwanted bulk in areas where you don't want to appear any bigger. That is why I would recommend this trend for areas in which you want add volume. If you are smaller up top, try a tiered ruffle blouse and if you have narrower hips try a tiered ruffle skirt. Make sure to balance your outfit with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans on the bottom or a fitted shirt on the top.
